My Experience before, during, and after Enyata Academy

How it Started.

Sometimes, we never know that a conversation could lead to a million dollar bills. I was having a normal chat with my senior brother on a social media platform and there he sent a link to this opportunity in Tech. I sent an application as every graduate would treat an offer and later I received a mail to notify me of the test scheduled for me as part of the recruitment process into the Bootcamp. I wrote the test as to when due and I eventually got a notification that I made it to the Bootcamp which lasted for two weeks.

During the Bootcamp where we were introduced to the basic programming language(HTML, CSS, Javascript), I was floating for a week as all the technical terms were strange to me even though I studied Engineering. As a typical Nigerian University Graduate, “ that never give up mentality” was always there to make me keep at it, and with time, I started to understand the terms and the concept of programming and from there I began to develop a passion for it. Thanks to the patient facilitators and colleagues who helped me find my way around it. The Bootcamp ended with a mini-project to defend and I gave my contribution to the team I belong and my passion was still intact.

The Experience.

Beyond my expectations, I made it to the Academy then the journey started and it lasted for 4 months where I stayed on call from 9 am to 5 pm with an hour break in between that time. I picked up from where I left during the Bootcamp and was able to learn faster and better. Everything was fine during the first three weeks when we were learning HTML and CSS as we got to extensively practicalize what we were doing. It was quite demanding and fascinating because we had tasks to do even after the class and the results came out immediately.

Then we began to step into the deep waters of the Academy in JAVASCRIPT learning. The name is scary not to talk of its contents. It was a mount Everest which was scary to mount, a lot of sleepless nights which eventually became a norm, and at times, I went into the class with fear not knowing what the day had to offer. However, the brilliance and the experience of the facilitators in programming helped me through the hurdles of Javascript which set the right foundation for me to build on. In all of these, the facilitators were calm, down to earth, willing to get me and my colleagues to their level within that time frame if possible. The Coordinator of the Academy would come at intervals to encourage, give pep talks, share the story of the feelings of the previous academy set and all these served as a motivation for me and my colleagues.

It was a great experience during the Academy, my colleagues were just awesome. Everyone was supportive, the togetherness and oneness were unbreakable, and the community bond was so strong. It helped me when we eventually got into the Organization. It was easy to blend in with the system.

After the Academy

Surprisingly, I was offered a Product Owner role which is a management role in scrum product methodology. Getting into the company my colleagues and I were onboarded with the tool (Brand New MacBook) to make work seamless and had a pair-programming for 6 weeks, where we got to learn the character, values, and ethics of the company and also get to work on a real-time project.

I have learned a whole lot about technology-powered products and their management. The way the company system is structured gives room for all-round development and it is not limited to your role. It has been an awesome experience getting to know and work with Enyata Software Engineering Limited.
